With one look, you can tell the 2022 Subaru Forester and GMC Terrain were made for adventure. The Terrain offers standard 18" wheels while the Forester has standard 17" wheels with the option to upgrade to 18". The Terrain has a ground clearance of 7.9" but the Forester boasts an 8.7" ground clearance for extra off-road capability. If you're looking for even more, the Forester Wilderness model offers a ground clearance of 9.2" and all-terrain tires so you can explore all of the out-of-the-way areas you've always dreamed about. The GMC comes standard with heated side mirrors while they're an available feature on the Forester but that's where the advantages for the Terrain end. The Forester offers standard LED Steering Responsive Headlights, available LED fog lights, and an available roof spoiler, features you won't find on the Terrain. Both SUVs offer available roof rails for extra cargo space but only the Forester Wilderness trim has rails that can hold a capacity of up to 800lbs.

The 2022 Forester is the clear winner when it comes to interior space: you'll find more head and legroom inside the Forester compared to the 2022 Terrain as well as 111.6 cubic feet of passenger space compared to the 103.2 cubic feet of the Terrain. When you lay the rear seat flat, the Forester opens up to offer a vast 74.3 cubic feet of room while you'll only find 63.3 cubic feet of space behind the front seat of the Terrain. Heated front seats are standard on the Terrain and on all models of the Forester above the base. Both SUVs offer available heated rear outboard seats and leather-trimmed upholstery. Exclusive to the Forester are convenient one-touch folding rear seatbacks for easy access to the cargo area and StarTex® water repellent upholstery is standard fare on the Forester Wilderness model.

The horizontally opposed drivetrain generates a powerful 182 horsepower and 176 lb/ft of torque while mated to a Lineartronic® CVT automatic transmission. Higher trim levels, including the Forester Wilderness, offer either a 7- or 8-speed manual mode for when you want to feel the power at your fingertips. The 2022 Terrain offers a 1.5L turbo 4-cylinder that produces 170 horsepower and 203 lb/ft of torque while paired to a 9-speed automatic. The Terrain doesn't offer a manual mode. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard fare on the Forester while it's optional on the Terrain, costing you more if that's a must-have feature. You'll get an amazing 33 MPG on the highway with the Forester while the Terrain only offers up to 25 highway MPG.
