Choosing a new car can be a confusing and overwhelming experience, but we're here to help you navigate those treacherous waters. Once you've decided that you want a reliable, elegant sedan, we think we have the perfect vehicle for you. The 2022 Subaru Legacy is a sleek, sporty, elegant, and reliable sedan that has power, comfort, and high-standards of safety and technology. But how does it compare to competitors like the 2022 Kia K5? Below, we look at exactly that.
Both of these sedans have designs that are eye-catching and sleek, but overall, the 2022 Subaru Legacy has a more valuable overall package. Standard 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, LED Steering Responsive Headlights, and single-exhaust outlet create a look that's powerful but not obnoxious. There is also an available trunk spoiler, panoramic moonroof, and dual exhaust ports. Alternatively, the 2022 Kia K5 has standard 16-inch Alloy wheels and Multi-Reflector LED Headlights. The design of the K5 is slick, but it looks like it tries harder than the Legacy.
The trend continues inside both of these vehicles. In the interior of the Legacy, you'll find the same amount of passenger space as you would in the K5 (105.5 cubic feet), but with a more comfortable feel. The entry-level Legacy comes with cloth upholstery, but there are available upgrades for sport-cloth with red contrast stitching and Nappa leather upholstery. None of the available upgrades for the K5 come close to the elegance and quality of Nappa Leather.
In the 21st-century, your vehicle can't be taken seriously unless it has state-of-the-art multimedia and infotainment technology. And it only makes sense, considering how much our smartphones have become so integral to our life. That smart-phone integration is absolutely seamless in the 2022 Legacy thanks to the STARLINK Multimedia System. Dual 7-inch touchscreens can be activated through touch, integrated steering-wheel controls, and even voice activation. Also, there are available upgrades for a 11.6-inch screen and navigation capabilities. In the 2022 KIA K5, there is a 8-inch touchscreen with bluetooth capabilities and various upgrades available.
Under the hood of each of these sedans are very different engines that surprisingly pump out very similar levels of performance. The 2.5-liter Direct Injection BOXER engine of the 2022 Legacy generates 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. The 1.6-liter Turbocharged engine of the K5 is nearly identical with 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Of course, the Legacy comes standard with the signature Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and the AWD capabilities of the K5 is only available in upgrade.
You absolutely cannot be taken seriously as an automotive manufacturer in the 21st-century if you don't keep up with the latest driver-assistance technology. Luckily, both the 2022 Legacy and 2022 K5 have plenty of that to go around. The Legacy comes standard with EyeSight Driver Assistance with Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, and Lane Departure Assist, as well as available DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System and Blind-Spot Detection System. Meanwhile, the K5 comes standard with Forward Collision Avoidance, Driver Attention Warning, and Lane Keep Assist.
Overall, both of these sedans are fine vehicles with plenty to offer Ohioan motorists. However, the 2022 Subaru Legacy manages to pull just ahead of the K5 in most arenas. Finally, take a look at the starting MSRPs of each vehicle: $22,995 for the Legacy and $23,690 for the K5. If you have any questions about the Legacy that we haven't answered here, please give us a call. Or, swing by and take a look at the Legacy in person at 401 N Hamilton Rd in Columbus, OH.
