2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Subaru Forester Comparison in Columbus, OH

When you're looking for an SUV that's perfectly suited to all kinds of driving--from city streets to highways to the great outdoors--you can't go wrong with a Subaru. But Subaru has more than one amazing SUV. Is the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, a compact crossover SUV, the right choice for you? Or would the 2019 Subaru Forester, a small SUV, be a better choice?

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Subaru Forester Exterior Design Comparison

These two SUVs do have several differences; however, there are many important similarities. As Subaru models, they both have renowned high quality, value retention, and longevity. They're also both equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and SUBARU BOXER® engines. And they're some of the most comfortable, enjoyable SUVs you can find! Keep reading to learn about some key differences.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Subaru Forester: Dimensions

The Subaru Crosstrek is a compact crossover SUV, while the Subaru Forester is a small SUV. This means that the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek has a smaller footprint that makes it easier to fit into tight parking spots and narrow alleyways. The Subaru Forester, on the other hand, has noticeably more interior volume. Both vehicles are comfortable, but the extra cargo volume in the Subaru Forester (35.4 cubic feet, compared to the 20.8 cubic feet in the Subaru Crosstrek) can really be helpful if you need to carry lots of stuff along with you. One other thing to consider: every Subaru Crosstrek comes standard with roof rails for extra cargo capacity. The entry-level Subaru Forester does not have roof rails, but all other trim levels do.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Subaru Forester: Performance

As we mentioned, both the Subaru Crosstrek and the Subaru Forester are powered by SUBARU BOXER® engines. The engine in the Subaru Forester generates more power--but the Forester is also heavier, so they'll feel similar and have similar fuel economy. They also both come standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and have available off-road features like Hill Descent Control and X-MODE®.

There are, however, two main differences. The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek has an available manual transmission, while the Subaru Forester only comes with automatic CVT. If you like the feel of a stick, the Crosstrek is the way to go. In addition, there's now a limited-release Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, which delivers incredible fuel economy.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Subaru Forester: Safety

Subaru values your safety highly, so it makes sense that these two SUVs are remarkably safe. However, there are two key differences to keep in mind. The first is that every Subaru Forester comes with EyeSight® driver assist technology. This suite of safety features is available on the Subaru Crosstrek, but not standard until you get to higher trim levels. In addition, the Subaru Forester has a new available system: DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System, which alerts you if your driving seems drowsy or distracted.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Subaru Forester: Value

The Subaru Forester has a starting MSRP a few thousand dollars more than the Subaru Crosstrek. If you need the extra space or the cutting-edge distraction mitigation system that the Subaru Forester offers, it's well worth the extra money. If you'd rather have something smaller and less expensive, the Subaru Crosstrek is still an amazing vehicle that gives you so much for the price.
