2019 Subaru Forester VS 2019 Ford Escape Interior Dimensions

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Interior Dimensions & Comfort

Whether you're driving solo or bringing the family along, it's nice to have some space--and the Subaru Forester delivers. It has 111.9 cubic feet of passenger volume, while the Ford Escape has only 98.7 cubic feet. This means that there's more headroom, legroom, and shoulder room on both rows in the Subaru Forester. Of course, there's more to comfort than just space. Once again, Subaru is the victor. The available heated rear seats let all your passengers find their ideal comfort level. You can't find heated rear seats on a Ford Escape.

In addition to having more room for passengers, the Subaru Forester also gives you more room for carrying cargo. The Ford Escape has 34 cubic feet of cargo volume; fold down the rear seats and that number goes up to 68 cubic feet. This might seem impressive . . . until you see the Subaru Forester. Its standard 35.4 cubic feet of cargo volume can expand to a cavernous 76.1 cubic feet! Loading and unloading cargo is easier in the Subaru Forester, as well: all but the entry-level trim come with a power rear liftgate. To get the same feature on the Ford Escape, you have to upgrade two trim levels for an MSRP that's getting close to $30,000.

2019 Subaru Forester VS 2019 Ford Escape Technology Features

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Tech Features

When it comes to technology that keeps you comfortable, connected, and safe, the Subaru Forester is once again the better choice. For example, Apple CarPlay™ and Android™ Auto are standard on every new 2019 Subaru Forester, but are an available upgrade on the Ford Escape.

However, perhaps the most impressive tech feature offered by the Subaru Forester is the available new Subaru DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System. If you become drowsy or distracted and it affects your driving, this system will alert you so that you can take the necessary steps to fix things. It will also recognize up to five different drivers!

2019 Subaru Forester VS 2019 Ford Escape Driving Performance

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Performance

It's true that the 182 horsepower that comes standard in the Subaru Forester is more than the 168 horsepower you'll get in the standard Ford Escape engine. However, power is only the beginning of what makes the Forester special. The SUBARU BOXER® engine provides a smooth, enjoyable ride. It also gives the Forester exceptional balance and a low center of gravity.

In addition, the Subaru Forester is ready for all kinds of off-road fun. It comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and every trim but the entry-level come with Hill Descent Control and X-MODE® (which provides optimal traction on low-friction areas) to enable even more rugged adventure. By comparison, the Ford Escape is a front-wheel drive SUV. You can choose a 4WD Escape instead, but it's a costly upgrade.

2019 Subaru Forester VS 2019 Ford Escape Safety Ratings

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Safety Ratings

Subaru is dedicated to keeping you and your family safe, and it shows. The 2019 Subaru Forester earned a 2019 Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 2019 Ford Escape didn't win any IIHS awards, but that's just the beginning of the story. While the Subaru Forester earned Good ratings (the highest possible) in all its crashworthiness tests, the Ford Escape didn't fare quite so well. In the small overlap front crash tests, it received an Acceptable rating (the second-lowest) for driver-side and a Poor rating (the lowest) for passenger-side. In addition, its crash avoidance & mitigation features were rated Basic, compared to the Superior rating for these features on the Subaru Forester.

2019 Subaru Forester VS 2019 Ford Escape Driver Assistance

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Driver Assist Technology

Every new 2019 Subaru Forester comes standard with EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-collision Braking, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lane Keep Assist. The Ford Escape does offer many similar features; however, they're not standard like they are on the Subaru. Instead, they're pricey upgrades. This means that, once again, you'll have to pay more for a Ford Escape that's equipped similarly to the standard Subaru Forester.
