2019 Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra Compact Sedan Comparison in Columbus, OH

The small sedan segment is filled with attractive options that are all very much alike. The 2019 Subaru Impreza dares to be different. From its standard AWD to its impressive passenger space, the 2019 Subaru Impreza has what it takes to best other cars in its segment.

Take the 2019 Hyundai Elantra, for example. It may seem a little cheaper than the Subaru Impreza, but Subaru gives you so much more for your money. We'll take a look at just what it is that makes the Subaru Impreza the better choice below. After you see what this Subaru can do, check out our Impreza inventory or just head in for a test drive.

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Interior Space & Comfort Features

Even just looking at the interior volume, it's clear that the 2019 Subaru Impreza is the more comfortable car. Its 99.8 cubic feet of passenger space gives everyone plenty of legroom and shoulder room to stretch without bumping into each other (or the seat in front of them). At just 95.8 cubic feet of passenger space, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra simply can't match this level of comfort. But it goes beyond just this: the 2019 Hyundai Elantra lacks certain basic features at the entry level, including cruise control and floor mats. These features can of course be found standard in every Subaru Impreza.

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Tech Features

Step inside the 2019 Subaru Impreza and you'll be met with a 6.5-inch touchscreen that's clear, attractive, and intuitive. What's more, you'll get connectivity through Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ on even the entry-level model. Not only are these connectivity features unavailable in the entry-level Hyundai Elantra, but its standard touchscreen is only 5 inches.

A BOXER engine like the kind in the Subaru Impreza.

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Performance

Though the Subaru Impreza generates a bit more horsepower than the Hyundai Elantra, that's far from the biggest difference between the two engines. At the heart of the 2019 Subaru Impreza is a BOXER® engine. The flat design of this engine means that the Impreza is impeccably balanced, as well as giving a smoother and quieter drive than you'll get from a vehicle with an inline engine. While we're on the subject of smooth drives, the Subaru Impreza has four-wheel independent suspension that improves the driving experience even more. The Hyundai Elantra, on the other hand, has semi-independent torsion-beam rear suspension that simply can't match the comfort and handling you'll get from the Subaru.

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Safety

Like most compact cars, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra is a front-wheel drive vehicle. The Subaru Impreza isn't "most compact cars." Instead, it comes with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, the legendary AWD system that has made Subaru a household name in the nation's more rugged regions and most demanding winter roads. This AWD system gives you extra traction in the snow or rain. In addition, you'll get disc brakes on all four wheels in the Subaru Impreza, providing exceptional stopping power. While the Hyundai Elantra has front disc brakes, less powerful drum brakes are standard for the rear wheels. Rear disc brakes are available, but they're more expensive.

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Driver Assist Technology

EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is available in even the entry-level Subaru Impreza. This suite of features includes adaptive cruise control, lane assist, lane departure alert, and pre-collision braking. While you can find similar features in the Hyundai Elantra, none of them are available in the entry-level trim. As a matter of fact, adaptive cruise control is an option only in the highest trim level.
